Carolina Ceramics Brick Company Wins Four Brick in Architecture Awards
Columbia, SC— Carolina Ceramics Brick Company recently won four 2007 Brick in Architecture Awards. The Brick In Architecture Awards given annually by the Brick Industry Association has become the nation's premiere architectural award featuring clay brick. Architectural and design firms from around the country enter their best work and are judged by a jury of their peers.The first award was a Best-in-Class given for the Health Care Facilities Category — The Moakley Building at Boston Medical Center. It was designed by Tsoi/Kobus & Associates, Inc. of Cambridge, Massachusetts. Brick was provided by Spaulding Brick Company, Inc., a distributor of Carolina Ceramics’ brick.
A Silver Award was won for the categories Schools - K-12. The winning entry was for Blythewood High School in Blythewood, South Carolina. The school was designed by architects Perkins & Will of Chicago, Illinois and The Boudreaux Group of Columbia, South Carolina.
A RATIO Architects’ project, Butler University Student Housing in Indianapolis, Indiana was the second Silver Award winner. It won in the category of Universities-Residences. A Bronze award was given for another Butler University project, also designed by RATIO Architects of Indianapolis. This won in the category Universities – Educational or Administrative for the Health & Recreation Complex. Brick for both of these projects were provided by Indiana Brick Corporation, a distributor of Carolina Ceramics Brick Company products.
“The two Butler University projects were unique because of their location in the historic Butler-Tarkington neighborhood in downtown Indianapolis.
